Bloomington, IN (PRWEB) August 09, 2023 — Terry Tallen, star defensive player for the Indiana University Football team, will be inducted into the Indiana Sports Hall of Fame (ISHOF), August 12 at the 2nd Annual Induction Banquet at the Old National Events Plaza in Evansville, IN. Terry joins other Hoosier sports greats such as 14-year NFL All-Pro, Super Bowl Champion and Indiana University quarterback Trent Green; Dr. Kevin Speer, two-time first team IU Academic All-American and All-Big Ten recipient; Big Ten Medal of Honor recipient and a National Football Foundation Hall of Fame offensive center Reggie Wayne of the Indianapolis Colts; racing legend, Al Unser Jr., Chris Doleman, Minnesota Vikings All-Pro lineman and former Hoosier basketball great and sportscaster Dan Dakich.
Terry was coached by ESPN Hall of Fame broadcaster Lee Corso. He was a three-year football starter and letterman at middle linebacker and nose tackle, and was elected a Hoosier’s two-time co-captain, including during IU’s nationally ranked (15th UPI) Holiday Bowl Championship team, IU’s first bowl victory. In 2008, Tallen created the Terry Tallen Indiana Football Leadership Scholarship which is awarded annually to a deserving IU football team captain who has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills on the field as well as in the classroom and the community. Five Tallen Scholarship winners are currently playing in the NFL including Micah McFadden, NY Giants; Nick Westbrook, Tennessee Titans; Cam Jones, Kansas City Chiefs; Wes Martin, Cleveland Browns and Mike Feeney, NY Giants.
The purpose of the Terry Tallen Football leadership scholarship is to be inspirational as well as aspirational to other former student athletes regardless of sport or gender, not only to give something back to IU but also to motivate others to pay it forward to future generations of IU student-athletes.
“We are delighted to honor Terry’s great talents in the world of athletics, commerce, philanthropy and his continued devotion to the state of Indiana as well as Indiana University,” said Tim Turpin, founder, Indiana Sports Hall of Fame. “He embodies true Hoosier spirit, leadership, entrepreneurship and solid midwestern values.”
Tallen, a highly respected commercial real estate investor and leader in athletics and philanthropy, gifted $2 million, the largest gift ever provided to IU by a former football player, to the IU Bicentennial Campaign for Athletics to fund the renovation of the new state-of-the-art 25,000 square foot football locker room and team complex in Memorial Stadium. The Terry Tallen Indiana Football Complex opened in 2019 and is considered one of the finest new collegiate football complexes in the USA.
“I’m very grateful to receive this tremendous honor and I am especially thankful that both Kevin Speer and I are being inducted together in the same induction class and ceremony,” said Tallen. “I am also thankful to our teammates and coaches at IU and share this award with them. It’s another great sports-related story showcasing the many benefits of the hard work and rewards that are possible by embracing and participating in athletics.”
Terry is a member of the Butler County Sports Hall of Fame, the Stephen T. Badin High School Athletics Hall of Fame, a 2016 recipient of IU’s coveted Zora Clevenger Award and a 2022 IU President’s Circle Laurel Pin honoree.
