June 12th, 2024: San Diego, California – The 2024 Positive Coaching Alliance San Diego Game Changer Awards and Benefit was truly a special evening. Throughout the event, we heard from local sports celebrities as they shared their stories of impact in sports.
Event highlights included:
- Mark Loretta Former San Diego Padre, honored his Little League Coach, Bob Fickas for his lasting impact on his career and instilling his love of baseball.
- Brian Dutcher Men’s Head Basketball Coach at San Diego State University, was presented the Lifetime Achievement Award by legendary coach, Steve Fisher and former player/current SDSU coach, Aguek Arop.
- Jill Ellis President of San Diego Wave FC was presented a Game Changer Award for the positive impact the organization has on promoting equitable access to youth sports in the community.
- Jackie Robinson Family YMCA was honored with PCA’s Community Impact Award for the impactful work they do to make sports accessible to ALL kids in San Diego.
- Jeff Harper Harris was honored as the San Diego PCA Coach of the Year for his longtime impact on the youth of Southeast San Diego and Lincoln High School through basketball and so much more.
Positive Coaching Alliance is focused on ensuring that every young person benefits from a positive youth sports experience with a coach who inspires them to become the best version of themselves in the game and in life, regardless of social or economic circumstances. Through our delivery of low-to-no-cost trainings for under-resourced schools, school districts, and youth sports organizations, and our local community-based work looking at the sports equity gaps that exist and opportunities to close them – we are accelerating a positive youth sports experience for all.
