Terrence “Terry” Tallen Inducted Into International Real Estate Think Tank Homer Hoyt Institute as a Professional Fellow
Terrence “Terry”Tallen, founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Tallen Capital Partners, was inducted into the Homer Hoyt Institute as a Hoyt Professional Fellow. Tallen, who is a member of the Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate’s policy advisory board, has long-standing ties to San Diego.
Tallen was inaugurated as a fellow in the Homer Hoyt Institute by the Hoyt President Jeffrey Fisher, PhD, professor emeritus at Indiana University (IU) and founder of the IU Center for Real Estate. A private event and annual conference took place on May 12, 2022 at the Homer Hoyt Institute’s international headquarters located in North Palm Beach, Florida.
“We are honored to welcome our colleague and friend Terry Tallen to the Homer Hoyt Institute,” says Fisher “His influence and support for the commercial real estate field, especially his involvement in education and melding the worlds of education, athletics and philanthropy has been outstanding. We know becoming a Professional Fellow will help extend his impressive commitments.”
The Homer Hoyt Institute, a renowned independent, non-profit, leading international research and educational foundation, was established in 1967. It has contributed to improving the quality of public and private real estate decisions. The Institute brings in leading real estate academics and professionals from around the world do discuss applied research and current market trends impacting real estate.
The Hoyt Professional Fellows are a group of industry leaders honored for their leadership and accomplishments in the field of professional real estate. They interact with the Hoyt Academic Fellows to provide thoughtful and real-time research and educational initiatives
Tallen has a rich history with the City of San Diego, its institutions and leadership. He first arrived in San Diego in 1979 as a student-athlete, team captain and defensive star of Indiana University’s Nationally Ranked 1979 Holiday Bowl Championship football team (#15 UPI). Tallen then started his commercial real estate career in San Diego in 1998. He was recruited to lead the redevelopment and portfolio leasing for the Burnham Pacific REIT (NYSE:BPP)as a senior executive and corporate officer. BPP was a 115 property, fully integrated Real Estate Investment Trust with retail assets spanning coast to coast, under the leadership of Chairman Malin Burnham.
In 2017, through his relationships with Jeff Fisher and Norm Miller PhD, Hahn Chair of Real Estate Finance at the University of San Diego’s Knauss School of Business, Tallen was invited to join the policy advisory board at the Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate at USD, reuniting Tallen with Malin Burnham and aligning with the Burnham-Moores Center’s Executive Director Stath Karras and Dr. Miller. Dr. Miller is also the vice president of the Homer Hoyt Institute.
